THE Beatles to be knighted? It would not only be a travesty (Letters, January 3), but a grave miscarriage of justice.

I grew up with the Beatles and yet they never did a thing for me in musical terms. But, then again, maybe it was because I wouldn't allow myself to be sacked into the hyped-up euphoria of the time. The one factor that sticks in my mind more than anything is the times when I read in the tabloids of autograph hunters being told to leave in no uncertain terms.

They became so big-headed it was unreal. So do we really wish to see such people being knighted?

If I had my way all knighthoods would be scrapped. No-one merits such god-like accolades, whatever their success or achievements in life.

At the present, knighthoods are dished out like confetti and it is a national disgrace.
