A GOVERNMENT minister has confirmed that three Liberal councillors will not be allowed to take part in the vote to decide whether Pendle sells its share of the buses.
Pendle's Mayor, Councillor Gil Gilhespy, her husband Ian and former Mayor John David asked for special dispensation to vote at the January 31 meeting.
Environment Secretary Sir Paul Beresford, said Mr and Mrs Gilhespy were turned down because of pecuniary interests. Mr Gilhespy works for Stagecoach, one of the companies said to be interested in the sale.
John David, a director of Burnley and Pendle Transport, can vote at the council's policy committee but not at full council where the decision is taken.
