ROYAL OAK are striding clear in the Leigh & District Amateur Football League.

They beat Blue Lion 3-1 to extend their lead to three points at the top of Div One.

Goals from Paul Taylor, Mark McHugh and Paul Cotterill secured it, though Lion kept in touch with a David Duffy strike.

But Westleigh Village A could be the team to watch. They ominously moved into second spot, beating Leigh Eagles 4-2 - and they have two games in hand.

Goals from John Marsden, Peter Baron, Martin Lavery and Chris Sanderson made up the 4, Clinton Andrews and Simon Stout made up the 2.

Union A crashed to their first defeat since late September, falling 3-1 at Three Crowns A.

Matt Toone gave Union a first minute lead, but it was downhill there then on, Paul Szostok, Dave Gibson and Peter Shepherd clinching it.

Queens beat Punch Bowl 4-2, Colin Hart 2, Terry Grogan and Stephen Potter out-scoring Curtis Cooper and Kevin Hall.

In Division Two Higher Fold leap to the top after a 4-2 win against Ross's. Doubles from Damion Stones and Warren Knowles for the winners, singles from Paul Nixon and Paul McCormack for the losers.

In the top clash Union B beat Three Crowns B 3-0, Colin Nemis 2 and Gary Lewis on target.

Westleigh Village B stay fourth - but, like their A team, they have games in hand on the leading trio.

They beat Waterside Risins 5-1 with goals from Jason Lee 2, John McCloughlin, Neil Arnold and Gary Melling.

A game of two halves as Albion drew 3-3 with Church. Albion swept clear in the first with goals from Jimmy Smith 2 and Phil Green, Church replied in terrific style in the second, Wayne Wood, Richard Travis and Anthony Miller on the mark.

And, in a nail-biting finale, Albion were hanging on and glad to grab a point!

Butchers beat Leigh Eagles B 4-3 in a real thriller. Gary Newby, Chris Bibby, Dave Redshaw and Martin Hughes carved it out for Butchers, John Rigby 2 and Jason Forshaw netted for Eagles.

Pheasant beat Phoenix 3-0 (Andy Yeldon 2, John Hall).
