A GRIEVING mum today revealed that she is considering legal action against the NHS after the tragic death of her little boy.
Lewis Jackson, of Monk Street, Clitheroe, was taken 85 miles to a Stoke-on-Trent hospital because there were no intensive care beds in the North West. He later fell into a coma and died.
His furious mum, Helen, told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph today that she was "absolutely disgusted" that the North West Regional Health Authority had decided not to hold a full inquiry into Lewis's death.
And she disclosed that she was seriously considering seeing a solicitor with a view to possible legal action. Mrs Jackson is also starting a campaign to try and improve intensive care provision in East Lancashire.
She said: "I am going to start a petition to campaign for more intensive care closer to this area.
"I am also determined to get to the bottom of what happened to Lewis."
The 21-month-old baby suffered from a genetic defect which slowed his development.
His mother added: "Myself and my family are absolutely disgusted there will be no inquiry. There has got to be one.
"But I am determined to get to the bottom of this. There is no proof that my baby would have died anyway.
"If he had not had to travel to Stoke he might still be here."
Mrs Jackson has already enlisted the support of Ribble Valley MP Nigel Evans who has called for a full inquiry.
