BURNLEY today denied Notts County's tall striker Devon White was an imminent Turf Moor target.

But I can reveal that under-fire manager Jimmy Mullen has spent the last 72 hours attempting to add a fresh face to the Clarets attacking force.

Mullen's extensive scouting network worked overtime this week covering numerous reserve and first team matches and a fresh face at Turf Moor cannot be ruled out.

The Turf Moor chief confirmed: "I want to bring some experience in alongside Kurt Nogan.

"I feel that is a priority at present and, if possible, I want to try and sign somebody in the near future.

"Kurt Nogan has scored the bulk of the goals this season. I just feel he needs more experienced support."

Mullen targeted White, one of the tallest strikers in the Football League, during his short stint at Queens Park Rangers.

But White was unavailable then and Burnley swooped for Stoke City's John Gayle. There is certainly no shortage of interest for White who has lost his place to highly-rated Irish striker Vinny Arkins. Last night Notts County kicked out a £100,000 bid from Bradford City. But despite only sporadic first team appearances, White can still boast 15 goals this season and Burnley could yet still strike for the 31-year-old forward.

Mullen refused to reveal whether he would wield the axe for tomorrow's vital home game against Stockport County.

But John Francis and Ted McMinn were both on stand-by for a recall. Striker David Eyres, who missed the 5-0 thrashing at Carlisle with influenza, should be fit.

But defender Gary Parkinson will probably need another couple of reserve games to reach full fitness.

The popular right-back returned to action in the Pontins League against Middlesbrough on Wednesday and featured for an hour.

Meanwhile, Stockport County skipper Mick Flynn says he would swop an FA Cup replay victory over Everton for three points against Burnley at Turf Moor. "It is always a grudge match when Burnley and Stockport get together and I don't think tomorrow will by any different," he said.

"We may have a big replay against Everton next Wednesday but I would rather win at Burnley tomorrow than beat Everton.

"Burnley, as far as Stockport are concerned, is always a very intimidating ground to play at."

"It is a derby for us and we are all keyed for tomorrow, especially after losing to Bradford in midweek."

Former Clarets striker Graham Lancashire has joined Third Division Wigan Athletic on loan. Lancashire moved to Lancashire rivals Preston North End but has not featured regularly in the first team.

The A team face Marine Reserves on Merseyside tomorrow while Burnley B entertain Chester City A at Gawthorpe.
