REIGNING World Superbike champion Carl Fogarty ended his test at the Phillip Island circuit by recording his fastest lap in the closing stages of today's third and final day. Fogarty finally got a full day of testing following a rain-hit week at the track south of Melbourne, Victoria. The test was his first on the 1996 Honda since his winter switch from Ducati. "Today was a success in as far as track time for me. Learning to ride any new bike will always take time, probably three or four tests," said Fogarty who lapped at 1m 36.29s. "At least I now know a lot more about the bike." He was two tenths of a second faster than his previous day's best time, but the Blackburn rider's team mate, New Zealander Aaron Slight recorded the fastest time of the test today in 1m 35.68s as he begins his third year on the 750cc factory Honda.

Fogarty and Slight will continue testing at European race tracks later this month.
