ENGLISH Nature and the Red Rose Forest Tree Challenge have given the Bury branch of British Trust for Conservation Volunteers £550 to grow trees from locally collected seeds.
Already 1,000 little oaks have been produced and another 10,000 acorns have been collected with the help of Whitefield Country Primary School and Bury WATCH group.
The trees are being grown at Philips Park in Whitefield where seed beds and compost bins have been built with the £1,100 donated.
The money has also been spent on tools, plant pots and plants for a demonstration wildlife garden.
"The trees produced will initially be used on BTCV projects, but once more are produced than we use, we will start selling the trees to other conservation organisations" says David Dutton the Bury Project Officer of BTCV.
