FUTURE visitors to Morecambe stand to win more than just a few pennies in the promenade arcades thanks to a new Government proposal.

Home Office Minister Timothy Kirkhope has announced plans to relax the current strict rules governing the location of casinos. Morecambe has been named as one of only 13 towns around the country where new casinos will be allowed.

The resort's MP Sir Mark Lennox-Boyd was pleased with the news. He said: "Any high quality venture which could help with the revival of Morecambe will have my approval.

"Any application for a casino would have to be considered on its merits and I would support any such application provided I am satisfied that it is of the highest possible quality and likely to bring prosperity to the town."
