RAIDERS battered a factory manager to the ground and then escaped with £5,000 wages he had just brought from the bank.
Police immediately sealed off a wide area around Tunstead Needlefelt, of Chatterton Mill, Ramsbottom, and put checks on the motorway, but the getaway car was not spotted. The mill manager was helping police and looking at photographs in an attempt to identify the man who attacked him.
