TURF Moor boss Adrian Heath landed his first Burnley signing today - Tottenham Hotspur striker Paul Mahorn.

And Heath continued his transfer deadline day search for new faces. He was hoping to sign a defender and a midfielder.

Heath was locked in last-minute talks with a First Division and a Premiership manager in a bid to bolster his squad still further before the 5pm deadline.

But the Burnley player-boss insisted that there would be NO Turf Moor outgoings.

Heath had hinted this week that he might have to sell either goalkeeper Marlon Beresford or top striker Kurt Nogan to raise cash.

But that appeared unlikely today.

Heath, though, was clearly delighted to land the highly-rated Tottenham forward who had made one first team appearance before this season with three on loan at Fulham.

Mahorn will remain at Turf Moor until the end of the season. Then there could be a possibility of a permanent deal.

Heath said: "He is a young striker with a lot of promise and potential. We are delighted to welcome him to Turf Moor.

"We've made extensive enquiries about the lad, and it clear he is very highly thought of. "He is very fast and has good touch and awareness. I think his presence will help us a lot.

"He didn't need any persuasion to come to Burnley and that is a really important factor.

"He was sat at White Hart Lane yesterday waiting for the final call and he will join us today.

"Paul has signed until the end of the season. Then we will review things."

Heath added that the Spurs forward - who has yet to make his Premiership bow - is already named in the squad for Saturday's trip to Wycombe Wanderers.

He added: "He will be involved at Wycombe, but I am not saying whether he will start."

Heath, who ran the rule over West Bromwich Albion Reserves at the Hawthorns last night, outlined his other targets.

"Ideally I'd like to bring a defender and a midfielder to the squad before tomorrow," he added.

"But some of the prices you get quoted are incredible. For instance, I asked about a young player with under two years experience and I was quoted £600,000.

"However, I've spoken with a Premiership and a First Division manager about two players. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that we get a positive reply."
