GOAL-CRAZY Westleigh Village B have hit the top on the crest of a strike storm.

They smashed TWELVE past luckless Leigh Phoenix to leap clear of Higher Fold for No 1 spot in Division Two of the Leigh & District Amateur Football League.

Village were 3-1 up at the break, Phoenix staying in touch through John Sharratt.

Then came the flood. Goals came from Jason Lee 4, Neil Arnold 3, Ray Peers 2, Steve Anderton 2 and Willy Coleman.

Title rivals Fold went down 1-0 to Union B - leaving the door open for Village.

Warren Knowles fluffed a spot kick for Fold before Union took the points courtesy of Dale Evans.

Wayne Woods' double strike earned Church a 2-1 win against Ross's, Craig Carter getting one back.

And there was a double for Steve Balmer, one from the spot, to earn Three Crowns B a 2-1 win at Waterside, Jim Keefe getting one back.

Goals from Simon Stout 2 and John Rigby gave Leigh Eagles B a 3-2 win against POL Our House, Karl Parkinson and Andy Durrington replying.

In the Carl Brown Memorial Trophy Westleigh A and Queens look virtual Group A semi-finalists.

Westleigh beat Punch Bowl 6-0, Steve Bevan 3, Matt Smith 2 and Rob Marsden on target, while Queens thumped George V1 4-0, Andrew Grundy (pen), Terry Grogan and Peter Healy 2 on target.

Royal Oak and Leigh Eagles A are strongly-fancied to go through from Group B, both sides now six points clear.

Oak beat Union A 4-2, Dave Calland 2, Dave Allinson and Damien Cartledge, back after a serious injury, on top target, Chris Gallagher and Andy Corrigan replying.

Clinton Andrews and Greg Anderson hit doubles as Eagles A beat Three Crowns A 4-2, the reply coming via Mark Coffey and a rare goal by Neil Unsworth.
