TURF Moor player-boss Adrian Heath stands by for action against Wycombe Wanderers at Adams Park tomorrow with new loan signings - Tottenham's Paul Mahorn and Barnsley defender Charlie Bishop - also in contention for a first team start.

Heath was delighted to welcome Barnsley defender Bishop to Turf Moor as he prepared Burnley for a first ever visit to Wycombe.

The 28-year-old stopper - who can play either in the centre of defence or at full-back - could make his debut tomorrow following the deadline-beating swoop hot on the heels of the Mahorn signing.

Bishop began his career with Stoke City before later spells with Bury and Barnsley.

"He will give us a physical presence in defence and that is vitally important," said Heath.

"Charlie has played in the First Division for Barnsley for the past four of five seasons.

"But, perhaps the most important aspect of all, is that we have a defender who can play in a couple of positions and who will increase the overall competition. I know he did very well at Preston when he was there a couple of months ago. We will review the situation with both players at the end of the season."

Heath has named himself in the Clarets squad for the first time in 1996 and said: "I might play myself tomorrow. I have trained all week and it is an option I am considering. "We have lacked a bit of craft in the final third of the field in the last five games.

"One of the things I have been able to offer in my career is to add that bit of quality in the final third and I am looking to do that again."

Heath last wore the claret and blue in the 2-2 draw with Chesterfield at Turf Moor in December, two days before he joined Sheffield United as assistant to Howard Kendall.

And the boss received a further boost today with both Peter Swan and Liam Robinson passed fit to play at Wycombe.

Wayne Dowell was the only out-going from Turf Moor yesterday. The young defender has joined Carlisle United on loan for a month.

Hearts midfielder Scott Leitch, who has spent the last few days training with Burnley, has linked up with promotion-chasing Swindon.

Wycombe manager Alan Smith has swooped for Chelsea defender Terry Skiverton from Stamford Bridge.
