AFTER reading a letter in The Journal regarding the proposed closure of Taylor Road, Hindley Green, I would like to say that the Taylor Road estate can only be separated properly from Edinburgh Drive estate by closing the top of Stuart Avenue.

This could then give Edinburgh Drive estate access in and out of Swan Lane by two roads. To do it as suggested would add further congestion to these accesses.

If it was closed at the top of Stuart Avenue as I have suggested, Taylor Road estate would then have accesses to Atherton Road via Taylor Road, Heath Gardens and Carr Common Road. This would then not cause any extra traffic to congest Swan Lane entrances.

The main problem is tenants on the Edinburgh Drive estate who park cars in ridiculous situations on the roads, instead of parking in their driveways. A large amount of traffic on the rat run, as you call it, is parents taking their children in cars to school in Swan Lane, and not only cars from the Swan Lane Industrial Estate.

I personally do not want any roads closed at all, but would be prepared to accept the closure of the top of Stuart Avenue as a reasonable alternative. The main reason for this suggestion is because it was suggested many years back when the estates were built and should have been done then.

If it was done there would be more accidents than at present. I have spoken with all the councillors for this ward and they agree that my alternative is the lesser of two evils.

I would state as usual the decisions are trying to be forced upon us by people who know nothing about the area. It is about time decisions were made democratic and a vote was taken by residents to say if they want the roads closed or not.
