EURO MP Mike Hindley was narrowly defeated in his bid to become Labour candidate for Hyndburn at the next General Election.

The former Hyndburn council leader was beaten by Liverpool solicitor Keva Coombes in a turnaround at Hyndburn Labour Party's selection meeting to pick a prospective Parliamentary candidate. Mr Coombes, a former leader of the abolished Merseyside Council, admitted he was surprised at beating the local man.
