EXAMINATION elation at achieving exceptional GCSE results turned to dismay when Arif Aslam missed out on the photo call for successful students at Habergham High School, Burnley.

Arif had to leave to visit his father who was in hospital following a gall bladder operation.

The sixteen-year-old said: "I was so upset at missing out on the photograph opportunity that I actually cried.

"I have never been in the newspapers and I wanted to be on the picture so that I could keep it for years to come.''

Arif's father, taxi proprietor Mohammed Aslam, is now recovering from his operation back at their home in Fifth Avenue, Burnley.

Arif achieved four A grades in double science, French and Urdu and B grade passes in double English, technology, maths, business studies and history.

He said: "I have been accepted at Clitheroe Royal Grammar School to do A-level chemistry, biology and physics and eventually I want to pursue a career in medicine or dentistry.''

When he finds time away from studying, Arif enjoys watching television, listening to music and playing tennis and badminton.
