HOUSEHOLDERS were branded "prisoners" as a stormy meeting over Pendle's plans to bulldoze up to 300 town centre homes ended in disarray.

More than 100 angry householders protested that they had been trapped by the council's announcement that it intended to redevelop the Clayton Street/Every Street area of Nelson.

They were unable to sell their properties and the council could not yet afford to buy them.
