DETECTIVES are appealing for witnesses after £300 was stolen from the home of a 93-year-old woman in Queen Anne Street, Haslingden.

She awoke from a Sunday afternoon nap to find a man in her hallway. He asked for change for a taxi.

When she went to the kitchen, cash was stolen from purses in the lounge. Cash may also have been taken from the kitchen. Two men were seen in the area during the morning and police are anxious to identify them and eliminate them from their inquiries.

Both are white. One is about 6ft tall, slim, has very short cropped light or grey hair, and is in his mid-twenties. He was wearing a dark green anorak.

The other is around 5ft 9in tall, slim, has short fair or blondish hair, and is in his late teens to early twenties. He was dressed in a blue and green anorak.

Detective Inspector John Fryer said: "We would like to hear from anyone who knows the identity of these two men, or from anyone who saw any suspicious activity on Sunday afternoon in the vicinity of the elderly lady's home."
