THE COSSACKS are coming to Burnley and set to storm a high church in the town.

Members of St Catherine's Church will have former reds in their beds next month after the Cossacks of Russia choral ensemble perform a special concert at the church, as part of their British tour.

The "Great Voices of Russia" event will feature Russian liturgical music and traditional songs.

The concert, which has already triggered rave reviews throughout Europe, will take place at St Catherine's on Saturday, September 14. And parish priest Father Tony Dalton is appealing to parishioners to provide overnight accommodation to keep down costs.

Fr Dalton, who has already seen the concert, says: "It is incredibly beautiful and moving.

"With 1000 years of practice the Russian church are expert at superb choral music.

"No organs or instruments, they have never felt the need for them to bolster their singing. This should be an excellent concert."

The performance at the Todmorden Road church starts at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £8 adults; £6 concessions and can be bought on the door, from the Children's Society shop in Standish Street or by contacting Fr Dalton on 423351.
