ANGRY Turf Moor boss Adrian Heath issued a public apology today after Burnley's Coca-Cola Cup disaster at Charlton.

Heath saw his side crash 4-1 to the First Division outfit in last night's second round, first leg tie at The Valley.

The Turf Moor chief, who described Burnley's performance as "awful", blasted: "That was by far the worst we've played all season.

"That display was not acceptable.

"We just didn't deserve anything.

"I felt sorry for the people who had made such a long journey down from Lancashire in midweek.

"They certainly didn't receive a performance from the players worth their support."

Burnley were 3-1 adrift by half-time and Heath added: "I was very disappointed with the performance. We were very poor.

"There was a lack of passion and enthusiasm about our game. "One or two of the players have had a lot of praise in the last two weeks. Maybe it's gone to their heads.

"We were poor all over the pitch.

"Apart from the two lads who came on as substitutes (Paul Smith and Andy Cooke) I couldn't give anyone any praise.

"We made a lot of chances but I thought we were awful at times. We just weren't ready for the tie."

Meanwhile, Italian trialists Roberto Vezzosi and Andrei Capecchi were due to launch their Burnley careers today-against Blackburn Rovers!

The Serie A pair were expected to be included in a Clarets reserve side for a private friendly at Rovers' Brockhall training ground this afternoon.

And there was a further boost with the news that strapping defender Vince Overson was due to hit the comeback trail in the same fixture. Overson has trained for nearly a week and was due to play for at least an hour, providing he had suffered no reaction to the calf injury which has forced him to miss the first month of the campaign.

But all eyes were on the Serie A youngsters as they bid to impress the Turf Moor management team.

The utility players should have played in the Pontins League clash at Wrexham a week ago but they failed to obtain clearance from the Italian FA in time.

The pair returned to Italy at the weekend but were back at Turf Moor today for an extended trial.

Clarets assistant manager John Ward explained: "The coaching staff were very impressed with both of the lads in training. They have a lot of skill and are very good technically. "But you never get a proper guide until you see a player in a competitive match situation.

"We organised the fixture against Blackburn because we had no reserve match this week."

He added: "It was frustrating not to get clearance last week because everything was sorted out at this end.

"But we are definitely pursuing the players and we will wait and see what develops."

Vezzosi and Capecchi are both still technically contracted to Napoli and Parma but were loaned to Serie B outfits Empoli and Lucchese last season.

Bury boss Stan Ternent today rubbished a newspaper report linking Clarets striker Liam Robinson with the Gigg Lane club.

Ternent said: "I have no interest in the player whatsoever."
