THE mother of a special needs boy is mounting a kerbside vigil for the motorist who gave her false details after a smash that damaged her Mobility car.

The driver of the Y registered Ford Granada told Mrs Vivien Mason, 33, that he was entirely to blame for the smash which wrecked her N registered Fiat Punto. But when she later checked his details, she discovered they were false.

Today Mrs Mason, a mother-of-four, from Mill Hill, Blackburn, said she could not believe the callous way in which the motorist tricked her and left her seven-year-old son, Steven, heart-broken in the vehicle.

She has vowed to stand and watch at the roadside for the vehicle and said: "He even had the gall to walk into a nearby shop to borrow a pen and piece of paper to write his details on." The driver of the silver grey car said he was insured by the Blackburn based 'Warmer' insurance company, that his name was Mr Philips and that he lived on Montague Street in the town.

Mrs Mason believes he may have been a painter and decorator because he was dressed in white overalls and had a pair of ladders on the roof of the four-door saloon.

She added: "I desperately need the car to keep Steven's hospital appointments. He is epileptic, has severe learning difficulties and was badly shaken by the accident.

"My insurance company told me I would have to pay the first £75 of the claim if I could not trace the other driver."

A spokesman for Blackburn police warned motorists to always take the full details of the vehicles involved in an accident.

The driver is described as white with brown hair, small brown beady eyes, a moustache with a stocky build.
