IT WAS announced that the Duchess of York was to pay her first visit to East Lancashire. She was scheduled to spend an hour with staff and residents of Richardson House in Blackburn - a special rehabilitation centre for deaf and handicapped people.
A blaze wrecked Brekel Labels factory at Viaduct Mill, Khyber Street, Colne, causing thousands of pounds-worth of damage. Staff arrived to find a smouldering ruin.
