Big match preview 1: Burnley v Charlton Athletic

ADRIAN Heath does not plan to feature in Burnley's Division Two plans this season.

The Clarets player-manager, who leads Burnley into tonight's Coca-Cola Cup clash against Charlton Athletic, says only a major Turf Moor injury crisis would tempt him back to wear the claret and blue again.

He revealed: "I've no plans to get involved this season with the first team.

"I think we've got enough ability at Turf Moor without me. It would have to be a severe injury crisis. Then I would have to consider it."

Heath is still training regularly at Gawthorpe but has not featured in the Clarets starting line-up since a 4-1 defeat at Wycombe Wanderers at the end of March.

"A few weeks ago I was considering making a decision about the possibility of retiring as a player around Christmas," he added.

"But I feel pretty fit. As long as I feel okay I'll continue with my registration. Even if it means only playing the odd game in the Pontins League. "Sometimes I think you get a better appreciation of younger players when you play alongside them in the reserves."

Meanwhile, first choice goalkeeper Marlon Beresford was ruled out of tonight's second round, second leg tie with a shoulder injury.

Wayne Russell will deputise again after he was called up for the 0-0 draw at Chesterfield.

There could also be a start for big defender Vince Overson who was a late substitute at Saltergate at the weekend.

Burnley face a 4-1 first leg deficit from the Valley but Heath added: "We're unbeaten in three league matches now and we want to prove that the result at Charlton was a one-off. "We didn't really do ourselves justice in the first leg and that's something we want to put right. I just a want a positive result and then we'll take it from there."

Burnley choose from: Russell, Parkinson, Eyres, Harrison, Winstanley, Hoyland, Smith, Barnes, Nogan, Brass, Gleghorn, Weller, Swan, Overson, Matthew.

Charlton from: Salmon, Barness, Chapple, Balmer, Stuart, Newton, Brown, Mortimer, Otto, Allen, Leaburn, Sturgess, Whyte, Nicholls.

Striker Liam Robinson could be out of action for a month with a groin injury. Heath added: "He's going to have to rest for a couple of weeks and it could be a month or so before Liam is back."

Heath reports no offers for transfer-listed defender Peter Swan.

Normal league prices will apply for tonight's second round tie. Concessions for all areas apply up until 4pm with the exception of the East Stand Family area upper tier which are on sale until kick-off (7.45pm).

The Clarets Independent Supporters Association meet at the Centre Spot on Thursday (8pm). Director Clive Holt will be the guest speaker.
