YOU report (LET, November 4) that Pendle's Labour MP, Gordon Prentice, "was in Barnoldswick and Colne to distribute leaflets and to talk to residents" about the County Council's threat to fire engines in Colne and Barnoldswick.

Yes, he did turn up in Barnoldswick for five minutes and he spoke to at least three people.

Then, when he saw a group of us Liberals appear with our own leaflets and placards telling him it was "Time to Tell the Truth" he scuttled away at speed.

As for Colne, he never turned up!

It's not Pendle Liberals who issued a document proposing to cut our fire engines. It was the Labour County Council.

And they have still not withdrawn it.

Until they do, we will go on campaigning, whether or not Mr Prentice sends out press statements about his mythical appearances!

Coun TONY GREAVES, Hartington Street, Winewall, Colne.
