FACELIFTED Blackburn station is to receive a heritage award at a prestigious ceremony.

The grade-two listed building was renovated as part of the scheme to transform Blackburn's Boulevard area.

Now it has won a category in the Ian Allan National Railway Heritage Awards.

The London Underground Award, presented for the greatest improvement to heritage, will be awarded to the station for work on its frontage.

The brickwork on the front of the station was cleaned and new roofing and windows were included in the refurbishment.

John Swift, QC, the rail regulator, will present the award at the Royal Institute of British Architects in London on December 9.

Heritage supporters at Clitheroe are already celebrating an award in the same scheme.

The Ian Allan Award for commercial success will go to The Platform Gallery at Clitheroe station.
