BLACKPOOL Football Club this week said a "sad farewell" to two of its directors as Billy and Rebecca Bingham quit.

Mr Bingham has also resigned from his post as director of football and the couple's departure means the club will need to line up a new main sponsor for next season.

Jeweller Rebecca's sponsorship was worth £100,000 over three years.

Billy Bingham said: "It is with deep regret I announce that my wife and I have resigned as directors of Blackpool Football Club.

"Over the past three years we have been totally committed to Blackpool FC.

"The club has struggled this season with the team having too much aggression in their play. Bookings and suspensions will not help win promotion.

"Only in the past four weeks has the team settled to a pattern of play and results have got better.

"Nine players now playing in the team played in the previous manager's team.

"Blackpool and their supporters will always be in our thoughts and we hope they will one day have a team playing in the Premiership in a stadium to be proud of."

Blackpool Football Club said in a statement yesterday (February 12): "It is with sadness that Blackpool Football Club announces that Bill Bingham and Rebecca Bingham have resigned from their positions as directors of Blackpool Football Club.

"Mr Bingham has also resigned from his position of director of football.

"There are no immediate plans to fill this position at the present time.

"The board of directors are most grateful for the support Mr and Mrs Bingham have given to the club in the past."

Bingham has a new role as technical adviser for FIFA, football's governing body.
