I am writing to appeal to all Morecambe residents, particularly those in Middleton, Overton and Heysham to unite in protest against the Pontin's prison proposal.

The plans are to be discussed at a city council planning meeting at Morecambe Town Hall on Monday (February 10) which starts at 2pm. As members of the public we are entitled to go and listen to what happens. If we turn out in full force then they will see just how strongly we feel about the matter.

Over and above the damage the temporary prison will inflict on both tourism and the quality of life of those living nearby, I wonder how long temporary will be? I suspect it will be anything but.

As a conservative voter, I must say I am not amused by the recent local press coverage in which, it seems, Labour is trying to make this campaign their own. This issue doesn't just affect the Labour voters, it affects all of us.

We must all make our presence felt.

Kay Carson, Heysham.
