LEYLAND licensees Brian and Sam Watmough and their customers are crying into their beer after being asked to change the name of their pub, the Hog's head.

That's why Citizen readers have been called to the rescue - to help them come up with a new name!

The name change is being asked for by pub company Whitbread which is concerned it creates a confusion with their Hogshead real ale pubs.

It was Sam herself who chose the Hog's Head name when the couple re-opened the pub on Golden Hill Lane after a £150,000 refurbishment last summer.

"We introduced a new menu with huge portions called the Whole Hog, so calling the pub the Hog's Head seemed natural," explained Sam. She added: "We've got four times as many customers than before the refurbishment and everyone from 18 to 80 feels welcome."

The Watmoughs and Hog's Head customers are now asking Citizen readers to come up with a new name for their pub.

"We would really like a name with a local connection or or a hog reference," said Sam.

The winner will be treated to a crate of champagne and a meal from the Whole Hog menu as well as being guest of honour at the pub's renaming ceremony. Send your suggestions to Hogs Head competition, 3, Winckley Court, Chapel Street Preston, by February 21.
