A LUCKY granddad had two reasons to be cheerful when he beat cancer and picked-up £100,000 in the same week.

After playing Littlewoods spot-the-ball for seven years, Peter Hill decided to go for broke and marked an amazing 1,200 crosses on his coupon.

The news of his win came just a week after doctors at Blackpool's Victoria Hospital gave him the 'all clear' following an operation to have a lung removed. "After news like that you don't think life can get much better," said Peter aged 62, "But it knocked me bow-legged when I found out I'd won the jackpot."

Having been forced to retire from Ribble Buses as a driver, due to bad health, Peter plans to clock up a few more miles by going abroad for the first time ever with the £5,000 holiday bonus included in the prize.

But top of his shopping list is the new kitchen his wife has been nagging him for, to replace the one he bought 14 years ago with a £2,800 pools win.

Peter, originally from Blackpool, now lives in Houghton just a 'stones throw' from his four children and five grandchildren, he has no plans to move.

Despite being shell-shocked from his huge win, Peter's first job was to fill in this weeks coupon. "They say good things come in threes," he laughed, "so I'm entering again this week. You never know."
