I READ with interest the letter from Lawrence Cunliffe MP (Mailbox, January 30).

I found it very amusing to read about our MP and the seat he occupies, because I've never seen him do any more in the House of Commons than perch in his 'illustrious haunt' (and I do watch Prime Minister's Question Time).

In fact, I have never seen him do anything at all. At least when Lowton was in the Makerfield constituency we could see our MP on the television, debating issues etc., but no such luck now.

It's time for Lawrence Cunliffe MP to stop short changing the 60,000 people he is supposed to represent. I would suggest a good first step would be to actually buy a house in Leigh. The second step is to remember the old political saying: "Better to retire five minutes too early, than five years too late."

Come back Ian McCartney 'all is forgiven'.
