A MUM-OF-TWO has won her battle for compensation against supermarket giants Wm Morrison after her Mini was damaged in their carwash.

Elizabeth Banks of Newton-with-Scales, Kirkham, breathed a sigh of relief as District Judge Ashton ruled Morrison's should pay £630 for repairs to roof of her car.

The decision put an end to months of accusations and legal wrangling which have caused Mrs Banks many sleepless nights.

Mrs Banks said: "I am so relieved it's all over. I never thought it would get this far.

"Morrisons obviously thought I was going to go away. They kept fobbing me off.

"It has been a strain but I think people should be aware that these things happen.

"I am upset that they never believed me. I am not the sort of person to lie."

Her nightmare began last July when she drove her Mini into the car wash at the Morrison's supermarket on Riversway.

Twice the machine 'tripped', tilting the car to the side. An attendant told Mrs Banks it was due to a dent in the roof of her car - a dent she says had not been there before she entered the carwash.

Although she was assured her claim would be dealt with by Morrison's insurers, Sun Alliance told her there was "doubt about the causation of the damage" and refused to pay up. Mrs Banks decided she had no option but to take the firm to court. Morrisons were unavailable for comment.
