STEVEN McDONALD made his debut for Leyland Warriors U9s in their 28-16 defeat at Lunheath Lions of Widnes.

Leyland were unable to make use of any of their positive moves in the game, but man of the match Philip Campbell, Daniel Aspinall, Ben Balch and James Lloyd all still managed to pull tries out of the bag.

The top tackler award was given to Daniel Hutchinson.

Warriors U11s lost 42-38 in a thriller at Widnes Tigers. In a sparkling first half showing there was plenty of determination from Warriors, despite a shortage of numbers. Nevertheless, the game was evenly matched.

Good work and purposeful activity from the team in the first half, while in the second Warriors allowed the Tigers to slowly catch up when more concentration would have seen a different result.

Hal Pedlar and Stuart Brown, who was voted top tackler, both contributed two tries.

The other tries were from Dean Taylor, James Franklin and man of the match Declan Mallom. Phil Conaghan had his debut game, showing a promising start and a willingness to work.

Warriors U13s lost 38-14 at Newtown Knights, too many basic mistakes taking their toll against an understrength team.

The Leyland side failed to control the ball while their defence was undisciplined.

Although there were several first team regulars missing from the Warriors line-up this was still a poor team performance.

Lee Byrom played well, scoring an excellent try on his debut, and with man of the match Greg Baron and runner-up Paul Brown (who also scored a try) kept the team going forward.

A late rally by Leyland gave a glimpse of what they could have achieved.

Dave Melling scored the only other try and Greg Baron added a conversion.

Michael Gordon, also making his debut, was top tackler.

Warriors U14s lost 36-0 against Folly Lane, who remain unbeaten this season. They were totally convincing against a below-strength Warrior side.

The Leyland injury-hit team tried hard but were no match for a team on top of their game, although there were some good individual performances, namely from prop forward John Fidler, who was in the thick of everything and deservedly won man of the match award.

Michael Smith once again came out on top of the tackle count with some bone-crunching tackles.
