SKIPPER Gordon Walker led the front as Leigh Athletic blasted bottom club Burnley GS 4-0.

Walker, who opened the way with a penalty, and Steve Kidd dominated midfield. The second strike came from Rob Lysons, his 20th of the season a deft flick, while Johnny Knowles knocked in No 3.

Burnley's goalie made some super stops before Andy Pickles and Danny Wilson combined for youngster Mark Yarwood to add the finishing touch.

At the other end Steve Hilton made some super stops to keep a blank sheet.

Next week Athletic are at home to Bolton Wyresdale.

Athletic 2nd's eight-match unbeaten run ended with a 4-1 reverse at Ashton. On target: Darren Barclay.

ATHERTON COLLS joint boss Steve Walton said: "It could have been 24 each! There were so many chances."

But only six went in - and they added up to a 4-2 loss at Vauxhall GM.

"We were 2-0 down at half-time through sloppy defending," he added.

"We scored through Graham Dodd and Mark Boland. But just as it looked as though we might get something out of it we conceded again and they banged in two late goals."
