LEIGH RU began brightly against Old Aldwinians - but they ended solidly in defence.

They were second best in a one-sided second half as the Old boys took charge for a 29-7 victory at Hand Lane.

A superb individual effort from Mark Hudspith, breaking clear and scoring under the posts, gave Leigh the start they needed. And the slick centre booted on the extra points.

But Aldwinians bounced back to level it at 7-7 at the interval. And the second period was dominated by the visitors with good possession from a strong pack and stylish finishing from a speedy back division. Leigh defended well but could never stem the tide.

Leigh 3rd drew 12-12 against Aldwinians, the honours deservedly shared. Tries for Yates and Hampson.

Leigh Tofts thumped Sedgeley Park with four tries for Andy Smith and one for MoM No 8 Brian Jones.

CULCHETH RU crashed 12-5 to Burnage, Dave Pitt their try-scorer. They now visit North Manchester for a Courage League match.

Culcheth 2nd lost 20-10 at Altrincham Kersal. Alan Houghton and Richie Smith impressed, Barry Wilson grabbed a try.
