FOOTBALL crazy MP Alistair Burt scored a "grand" goal at Ibrox stadium - his spot kick scored £1,000 for charity!

The Bury North MP was playing for Scotland in a half-time penalty shoot-out during the Rangers v Hearts match on Saturday, February 1, organised by the Parliamentary Beer Club.

Said Mr Burt: "What we didn't know was that a local brewery had agreed to sponsor the competition, giving £1,000 to a local charity for every Scottish goal scored."

Mr Burt's goal, along with five from his North-of-the-border colleagues, ensured a 6-4 victory to the Scots over an English MP side, and £6,000 for charity.

Mr Burt played for Scotland as he was a boyhood fan of the national side.

Though Bury born and bred, his parents are Scottish and his father, retired GP Dr James Burt, was in the Ibrox crowd to cheer him on.
