SCHOOLBOY David Kelly was so concerned over cuts in local education that he raided his own piggy bank in the hope his donation would resolve the problem.
Six-year-old David, of Bradshaw Road, Tottington, was so upset that teachers at Greenmount County Primary School could lose their jobs that he offered his £7.56 savings to help.
His mum, Sue, said: "David came home last Monday, January 27, very upset after being told by the head during assembly that teachers may lose their jobs as a result of the cuts in Bury's education budget.
"He was sure that his pocket money would save any job losses. He does not understand the enormity of the situation but I am very proud of him. He has put into context the effect these cuts will have on local children."
David, of Bradshaw Road, presented the cash to his class teacher who admitted she shed a tear as a result of his generosity.
Unabashed by his donation, David said this week: "I just thought it would help the headmaster save money. I don't want to lose any teachers. The people causing these problems are horrible."
