Bradford Park Avenue 0 Morecambe 1

MORECAMBE are set for a plum home tie against Dagenham and Redbridge after digging in for a deserved and hard won victory on Saturday. Last week's shock ATS cup exit at the hands of lowly Great Harwood had left the Shrimps in no mood for a repeat performance and despite atrocious playing conditions they kept their heads to keep them on the Wembley's trail. It was a looping Andy Grimshaw header from a Dave McKearney free kick in the 18th minute which eventually settled the match and took Morecambe into the next round.

Bradford went all out for a cup upset, their unrolled and puddle laden pitch making passing difficult, and they enjoyed greater possession.

But Morecambe showed their professional credentials, defending well and creating the better chances. Early in the second half Mark Ceraolo danced his way past two defenders but tried to place his shot when a good thump would have sufficed and a superb, 25-yard strike by Jim McCluskie rebound off the crossbar.

McCluskie later forced a spectacular one-handed save from Karl Lernaghan but despite making the openings the Shrimps were unable to build upon Grimshaw's 18th minute header.

Top scorer Ricardo Gabbiadini came on as substitute for the Unibond first division side, which injected new life into Bradford's play, but Morecambe held out to continue on their Wembley trail.

Team: McIlhargey, Burns (Lavelle) Leaver, Rushton, Hughes, Grimshaw, Monk, Healy, McKearney, Ceraolo (Williams) McCluskie (Udall).
