A QUICK-THINKING father rescued his family from their smoke-filled house by knotting bedsheets into a makeshift rope.
Michael McGuire and his wife, Jean, woke to find thick black smoke in their bedroom after a fire started in the lounge.
He rushed to wake his three-year-old son, William, then smashed a window with his bare hands and, using sheets tied together, the family were lowered to safety.
