PENDLE MP Gordon Prentice visited Colne's biggest employer after receiving assurances that Lear Corporation have no plans to close its operations in the town.

Mr Prentice made inquiries following speculation that Spring Garden Mill might close.

He met managing director Peter Berry and was shown around the plant.

Mr Prentice said the company's statement was reassuring as it was vital to keep all the manufacturing jobs possible.

There had been so many closures over recent years that another major one would not bear thinking about.

The company is a major supplier of car interior trim to the UK automotive industry.

Mr Berry told the MP that while there could be some transfer of products between Colne and their factory at Tipton in the West Midlands, they had some key processes at the Colne plant and they had not envisaged a withdrawal from that location.
