THREE students are preparing to take the plunge in a bid to raise more than £1,000 for charity.

Adele Silson and Heidi Douse, who attend Lytham St Annes Sixth Form College, and Kirsty Clancy, a pupil from Lytham St Annes High School, will take to the skies in April for a parachute jump over Cumbria.

The jump is the latest in a long line of fund-raising ideas from the college, which has adopted the David Lewis Organisation - an epilepsy group - as its charity for the year.

But the trio's exploits are by far the most adventurous event to date.

The girls will spend Saturday, April 19, training for the quick route to earth at North West Parachute Centre, before finally leaping out of the plane on Sunday, April 20.

But, between now and then, the girls need to raise £1,000 in sponsorship, which is why they decided to contact your caring Citizen.

Heidi, one of the three taking flight, says she will be on cloud nine when she flies up, up and away.

"I will be absolutely terrified when I get out there but it is always something Adele and I have wanted to do," she said.

"We saw the posters in college and thought, why not? I'm just worried I will faint when I fall out of the plane.

"I've been told the parachute is self-releasing so I have got nothing to worry about. Kirsty is the only one who isn't bothered about it."

Previous fund-raising drives have included quiz nights and other sponsored activities.

The event has been organised by the David Lewis Centre, which specialises in care for people with epilepsy.

If you would like to donate to the fund, cheques should be made payable to the David Lewis Centre and sent to Lytham St Annes High School Sixth Form Centre, Worsley Road, Lytham FY8 4DG.
