PRESTON police are holding an open day in an effort to recruit more people for their volunteer force, the Special Constabulary.
Specials come from all walks of life and, after training, are given the usual police powers and work alongside regular officers.
Recruits must be between 18 and 50 years of age, of good character, smart, in good health and prepared to devote a minimum of four hours a week to the Special Constabulary.
Visitors to the open day on Saturday at Canterbury Hall on North Road, Preston from 10am to 4pm can speak to specials and regulars to find out if the service appeals to them.
Inspector Peter Tickle said: "Special Constables perform a valuable role in supporting the regular force so come along to Canterbury Hall and find out if you fit the bill."
