THE hospitality of Briggers raised a lot of interest when author Alan Barnard was featured in the Citizen (January 16).

The Manchester-born evacuee was sent to Bamber Bridge in 1939 along with his sister Peggy.

Now living in Canada, he's written a book about his experience of country life with local family the Blackwell's who were kind enough to take him in.

"Peggy naturally wanted to stay with me and very few were able to house more than one extra child," said Alan.

"Consequently we were among the last taken." He went on: "and I had secretly begun to despair we would ever be picked as we sat there with our labels round our necks, clinging firmly to our carrier bags, our familiar gas masks and each other's hand."

Several people have called the Citizen since the article appeared and their details have been passed on.

But such was the response, Mr Barnard has asked us to print his address so anyone who wants to contact him can write:or 1242, Augusta Avenue, Burnaby, British Columbia, Canada, V5A 2V4, call him: (604) 299-7155, fax him: (604) 451-9402, or E-mail: Alan Barnard
