SENTIMENTAL sweethearts chose Valentine's Day to come from miles around and make their vows at Preston and South Ribble Registry Office on Guildhall Street.

Fairytale couple Gary Webster, 27, and Sharon Haworth, 19, came from Bakewell, Derbyshire, to get married in a place that was ideal for both their families.

The new Mrs Webster said: "It was so romantic getting married on Valentine's Day. I thought I was going to cry."

Her husband said: "I just can't describe the feeling. I am extremely happy."

The wedding came after a whirlwind romance where Gary briefly met Burnley-born Sharon on holiday in Ibiza in October.

They exchanged phone numbers and when back in this country spent six weeks phoning and writing to each other - one month Gary's phone bill was £300.

After falling in love they both decided to propose by post and

remarkably their letters crossed in the mail!

The newlyweds held a reception at the Railway Pub, Preston, before spending the night in the Forte Posthouse hotel.

Childhood sweethearts Mick Bramley, 24, and Jane Tomlinson, 24, of Meadow Street, Leyland, also chose February 14 as their big day.

The couple who got together eight years ago while both at Balshaw's High School thought it would be the perfect day to remember for their eight-month old son Lewis.

Mrs Bramley said: "It felt really romantic and quite emotional. It is something we can talk to Lewis about in the future." Mr Bramley said: "We've been together eight years so we thought it was about time to tie the knot."

It was a case of love at first sight for Bamber Bridge pair Paul Simpson, 21, and Wendy O'Connor, 24, who also had their big day last Friday. The couple, who live on Station Road, met in a bar five years ago and have been smitten ever since - so Valentine's Day seemed perfect.

Mr Simpson said: "What better day than February 14."

The new Mrs Simpson said: "It was very emotional."
