A LITTLE tale of local, friendly folk around Leigh at the weekend (February 15-16).

A normal, quiet couple walked down King Street after a good night out with friends at approximately 12.30am Sunday morning.

A group of males follow, with a brave, young, blond male virtually abusing the female of the couple (who he didn't know), questioning her morals, parentage, personal and sexual needs, wants and desires.

The young lady's partner politely asked brave, young man to be quiet and leave them alone, whereupon brave, young man attacked the lady's partner, proving what a fine specimen of a local hero does best after a few drinks/drugs with his associates, throwing the lady's partner to the pavement and gave him a 'good kicking' (local hero jargon) for having the tenacity to stand up to local hero.

The young lady becoming rather incensed at this treatment, retaliated by smacking local hero in face, at which local hero's friends restrained him.

By way of acknowledging local hero's inadequacies as a normal human being they said: "He's been wanting to kick off all night," which would excuses their inadequacies also.

During this normal event for a Saturday in Leigh, two of the local constabulary passed by in a police van, as did the Philistines so long ago.

The young lady's partner has been unable to walk for two days now. When he is well enough to face the journey to Wigan, and up to a seven hours wait, he will go for X-rays etc. to ascertain his injuries.

As I said, just an everyday tale of the good folk of Leigh after midnight on a Saturday.
