DIGGING the first lump of earth started work on a massive new 35 seater 'hide' at Pennington Flash.
Due for completion in Spring, the 48 foot by 10 foot hide will stand on a four foot plinth, giving unrivalled viewing of wildlife in the council-owned park in Leigh.
The hide will also have a specially-built ramp allowing easier access for the disabled and it will be divided into two sections to allow simultaneous use by school parties and members of the public.
Thanks to a £8,000 donation by BNFL in Risley, the hide will now become a special attraction for wildlife lovers and will also be used to host workshops, talks and presentations.
Joanne Gavin of BNFL said: "The interest in conservation and wildlife has increased dramatically and this project is an ideal way to introduce children of all ages to environmental issues. BNFL is delighted to support this project."
