MUSIC and dancing with a local flavour will hit the right notes at the Grand next month when Fiddler on the Roof comes to town.

This classic tale of Russian family life at the turn of the century will be brought to life by the Blackpool and Fylde Light Opera Company.

The leading role of Tevye is played by biology professor Glyn Morton, who lectures at the University of Central Lancashire in Preston.

Microbiology expert Glyn, aged 56, is no stranger to acting as he is a former member of the Fylde Coast Players and the Lytham Operatic Society.

He has also produced Showboat, Orpheus and Diefledermaus - and performed in Hello Dolly.

This will be the third time Glyn has played Tevye, after taking on the part in 1978 and 1992, so it's no surprise it's his favourite role!

Glyn said: "I originally began my theatrical career many years ago by doing sound recording with the BBC until I went to university."

From then on Glyn concentrated on lecturing - a career which has taken him to far-flung destinations such as China, Hong Kong and Brazil.

When asked to compare lecturing and acting he said: "There's not much difference. It all depends on how you deliver your scripts!"

Fiddler on the Roof is playing at the Grand from March 4 to 8.
