LEIGH EAST U15s are happy to be "Best in the North West".

Success followed last season's disappointments of runners-up in both league and cup.

East clinched the Premier League title three weeks ago when, after going unbeaten all season, they beat third-placed Lunts Heath 36-6.

So to the play-offs. In the semis they beat Blackbrook (last year's double winners) in an outstanding show, winning 88-6, and in Sunday's final - spurred on by coaches Phil Penkywicz and Steve Wood - they blasted runners-up Ince St Williams 56-26.

What a champagne season!

The whole team have represented Leigh Schoolboys this campaign, five have been selected for the North West Counties League squad, six are going to Australia in the summer with the NWC U16s squad.

Next season East will enter the prestigious National League. Their aim - to become National Champions.

East U18s are equally as successful. They beat Lunts Heath Lions 34-24 in the quarter-final of their KO with tries for Danny Halal, Chris Halal, Paul Salmon, Colin Rawson and Dean Tutill. They now face Hindley on May 11.
