TWO Pendle high schools are among the first in the county to be recognised for the way they encourage students to make the most of their potential. Primet High School, Colne, and Mansfield High School, Brierfield, introduced the National Record of Achievement scheme and have now been given accredited status for the way in which teachers operate the system.

The record scheme is designed to help participants plan and manage their own learning, develop skills, improve their confidence and ability to present themselves effectively and make the right decisions about personal and career development.

The accreditation status was conferred at a special ceremony attended by the chairman of the Lancashire education committee, Councillor Stan Wright.

"I am delighted that the first organisations to achieve accredited status for the National Record of Achievement scheme in Lancashire are in our own schools," he said.

"The record gives school leavers, students and employees the chance to present potential employers with a comprehensive breakdown of all the relevant information needed when they come to interview and appoint new employees.

"It also gives them the opportunity to take responsibility for their own learning and development needs.

"It encourages them to seek further qualifications and helps develop a culture where people feel valued and where their skills are used to the full."
