TRAIN passengers narrowly escaped serious injury when vandals sent a 200-pound coping stone crashing through the roof. The stone, measuring four and a half feet by two, smashed into the Colne to Preston 8.14pm train when it passed under Massey Street bridge, Briefield.

In a separate incident, vandals smashed up an emergency volunteer ambulance that was used all over the county.
