ONLY one in four cabs inspected in a council safety blitz passed the test, says a shock report to Pendle Council.

In the six months to the end of March tests were carried out on 215 hackney carriage and private hire vehicles in Pendle with 157 failing initially.

Operators were allowed 48 hours to bring the vehicles back for inspection free of charge.

A report to Thursday's meeting of the licensing sub-committee says a testing arrangement brought in at the end of September is working well.

Taxi licensing staff are very happy with the garage involved and the standard of testing.
