A DOUBLE boost will bring extra work and greater security to a booming industrial estate in Pendle.

A luxury car dealership will create more than 40 new jobs on the Lomeshaye Estate, in Nelson, when new workshops, a showroom and stores open next spring.

Construction of the Land Rover dealership site in the Churchill Way approach to the estate has begun and the garage is set to open in May.

A security firm is also set to move on to the estate creating more new jobs and providing CCTV cameras to monitor traffic coming in and out of the area. The Land Rover showroom will be run by Prestons, which operates the BMW dealership in Crown Way, Colne.

Work on the £1.5 million investment is being carried out by Barnfield Construction which is also based on the estate.

The scheme has been supported by the Pendle Partnership consortium and Single Regeneration Challenge Fund cash to help cover building costs and improvements to Churchill Way.

Prestons managing director, Richard Preston, said: "I am pleased that the Land Rover dealership will be sited in Pendle. It will be a major expansion of our car dealership which is owned and run by a local family firm.

"The problems of poor ground condition and limited access have been solved with help from Pendle Council and the Pendle Partnership."

The council's economic development manager, Colin Wilkinson, added: "This is very welcome. Another new business moving to the estate is a security firm from Altham. This will provide close circuit television monitoring of traffic entering and leaving the estate and will create a number of new jobs in the area."
